Day 8 Genealogy Photo A Day – Glasses
I’m had a great time at RootsTech 2017. Who wouldn’t? I met up with loads of RootsTech speakers, ambassadors, exhibitors and loads of family historians. Meet Helen V Smith and Thomas MacEntee wearing glasses. They volunteered to be my #GenealogyPhoto #GenealogyPhotoaday for Instagram as the theme was glasses.
Rootstech Speakers: Helen V. Smith
Helen is a family historian from Australia who has researched for over 30 years. As a regular speaker at family history events in numerous countries and ten Unlock the Past Cruises, Helen covers a wide range of topics. She presented twice at RootsTech. One on Newspapers titled “Social Context using Newspapers: Not just BMDs”. The other, “Finding Books, Books, Glorious Books”.
I am sure Helen’s profession as a Public Health Microbiologist was helpful when she wrote Death Certificates and Archaic Medical Terms. She also has authored other books and blogs at From Helen V Smith’s Keyboard.
RootsTech Speakers: Thomas MacEntree
For family history bloggers Thomas MacEntee is the known as the man behind GeneaBloggers. His RootsTech speaking profile totally understates what he does promoting and sharing family history skills. “Thomas MacEntee is a genealogy professional based in the United States specialising in the use of technology and social media to improve genealogy research and as a way to connect with others in the family history community.”
Thomas had 4 talks including, Wolfram Alpha for Genealogists and The 15 Habits of Highly Frugal Genealogists. He MC’d the Opening Party and was a judge on the Innovator Showdown. For us bloggers he kindly paid for the transport to the bloggers RootsTech After Party at Dear Myrtle’s place. Thomas, thanks heaps. Thomas is found at Genealogy Bargins.
Finally, one of the best parts of attending conferences is meeting inspirational people like Helen & Thomas. I’m saving for next time.
