Family History Month challenge number 13 is to “Download the free August genealogy ebook from genEbooks www.gen-ebooks.com “. genEbooks specialise in digital genealogy and family history books and are also sponsoring a prize for National Family History Month. For me downloading is something I can do in my sleep. I download thousands of images for work, podcasts, zipped up plugins for WordPress and much more. Sometime I have loads of files downloading at the same time. Currently I am trying to remember each day to download the 5 free images I am receiving as part of a trial with Desposit Photos. Got to love free photos for your blog.
If you are not as adept at downloading as me then following thoughts might help you get your free book. Not trying to be smart here, I’m just straight with this stuff. I am sure there are loads of things you could help me learn.
First only accept files from sites you can trust.
So it was the idea of a free genealogy book that made me pick this as my next challenge. At first it was not clear where the book was and I then found it in the “Free Downloads”. The book for the NFHM2014 is available for August 2014 however if you are reading this later check out genEbooks, as they might have a new free book. (No longer available)
While sites very in style there is usually a download button or a text link. On clicking this you see a window to allowing you to confirm and save the file. An example of this window is showing in the next image.
Where will you find your downloaded file for the free Family History Month book?
Unless you have moved where downloads are saved to it is probably in a file called downloads. I write down part or all of the file name when I see it on the screen to help find it on the computer if it does not save in downloads. I will need this if it ended up in my thousands of image files.
Found a book called Migration to New Zealand
I had a look around and have noted a book I will look into purchasing. I have number of ancestors, including a great grand father Francis KITTO, that migrated to New Zealand so it will be interesting to read about different migration periods and reasons people migrated.
When you are purchasing a book online how can you be sure it is suitable for your requirements? It is not like you can pick it up and look. So check out the sample pages. Again this is something you download.
